What is Oxidation Heat Treatment?

Oxidation heat treatment is a process that creates a controlled oxide layer on the surface of metals to increase corrosion resistance, enhance wear resistance, and sometimes provide an aesthetic appearance. This process is commonly used for passivation, decorative coating, or improving surface hardness.

How is Oxidation Heat Treatment Applied?

  • Preparation Phase: The metal surface is cleaned and prepared for the oxidation process.
  • Oxidation Phase:
    • Hot Air Oxidation: The metal is placed in an oven to react with oxygen at a specific temperature.
    • Chemical Oxidation: The metal surface is immersed in chemical baths to create a controlled oxide layer.
    • Electrolytic Oxidation (Anodic Oxidation): An oxide layer is formed on the metal surface using electric current.
  • Cooling and Final Checks: After oxidation is complete, the material is washed, dried, and sometimes protective coatings are applied.
